There are 3 distinct and separate legal systems in the UK;  one each for England & Wales, Scotland and NI.  This is because the Acts of Union in 1707 and 1800 recognised the historical origis of each area.   Within this framework there are two main types of legislation in the UK, primary which involve acts of parliamen or statutes and secondary legislation involving statutory instruments, often called codes, orders, regulations or rules.    Within these fall three general types of law, intentional, negligence and strict liability, with types of grievance including injury, slander, trespass, noise pollution and false imprisoment.   Successful cases geerally result in monetary compensaton for the ijured party, the claimant.  We start with the premise that the right to a fair trial and no punishment without law;  you  re therfore innocent until proven gilty.  If accused of a crime, you have the right to hear the evidence against you in a court of law.  Respect for privacy and family life and the right to marry.
